Maybe the next version of XML Publisher supports OpenOffice? Maybe Oracle can help to push OpenOffice as an alternative to MS Office in the long run?

Also, I'm interested to see how SAP reacts, they use a lot of Java these days as well...

Karen makes the interesting point that innovation is a matter of perception. She's right. But the common denominator has to be - do I as a customer get better value from my IT investments as a result of what the s/w supplier offers? In ORCL's case, it is hard to say that criteria has been met.

In the systems world 2010 is a long time from now indeed. Many times in my long PeopleSoft career I have learned new technologies. However, I wonder now if it is really worth it to learn the technical platform upon which Oracle Fusion applications will be based. Oracle will be introducing many new technologies in PeopleTools 8.5 that will require a steep learning curve on the part of the existing customer base. My efforts in the near term will be to learn PeopleTools 8.5 and the 9.1 application suite. I am concerned though that the PeopleSoft realm will stop attracting younger workers. Pretty soon no one under the age of 35 will be engaged in PeopleSoft development and, in the not to distant future, more experienced workers will increasingly be lost to retirement.

In the customer session on Sunday, Chris Leone, the Group Vice President of ERP Application Product Strategy claimed that Jesper Andersen hasn't had any Fusion responsibilities "for years".

On an unrelated topic, word on the street says Ellison didn't share Doris' ambitious PeopleTools roadmap vision and suddenly she was leaving to spend more time with her family.
